Permits are required, they are referred to as a "Temporary Permit" and need to be renewed once a year. The fee is $31.00 and the permit is valid for 1 year. For detailed information and application call (213) 485-2931. With a valid permit number the subscribers allowed 2 false alarms police responses within a year. Afterwards an $80.00 fine for each excessive alarm. If the subscriber does not have a current permit number, then he/she is allowed one false alarm and from then on it will be an $80.00 fine. If the alarm is caused by an actual break in or by a confirmed power failure then the subscriber is not charged for police response.

Any business or residence with an alarm must have a permit with the Monterey Park Police Department. Please call (626) 307-1215 for additional information. All alarm permits have a one-time enrollment fee of $33.00 with a failure to Notify Penalty of $27.00. False alarm billing is sent out quarterly. Businesses and residences receive one free false alarm each calendar year. Additional false alarms are billed on a graduated scale. The First alarm is considered free and each incident that follows will be billed. Each quarter is a separate bill for a specific time frame.

There is no fine for the first three false alarms. On the fourth and fifth occurrence, the fine is $100 per false alarm. On the sixth occurrence or more, the fine is $500 per false alarm. All alarm users must have a valid alarm permit. A separate permit is required for each alarm site. The current annual fee is $25 and is waived for renewal for residential sites at which no false alarms have been reported for the prior year. Failure to obtain a permit constitutes a violation of the Alarm Ordinance unless the alarm system is deactivated. Permits obtained in calendar year 2010 will be valid until December 31, 2011.
